THE SIT LIFE
is a mindfulness movement and event series - founded by Precious Frazier of Precious IAM - for black and brown women tackling “busyness” and mental health.
Through Sit Life experiences we provide women of color safe spaces to meditate, conversate, contemplate and BREATHE.
In today’s hyper-connected, fast-paced world women of color - such as yourself - are left with little or no space to just chill and be.
This constant state of being busy, distracted, and out of touch with the self is what leads to utter exhaustion, mental fatigue, overwhelm, worry, stress, fear and feeling out of control.
However, as you slow down, embrace stillness and take time to turn your gaze inward and upward, you gift yourself with the mental clarity, wisdom, rest and refuge you’ve been longing for all along.
In fact, as you reduce the inner and outer noise - even if for just a few moments each day - you get to meet yourself, your life experiences, and those in your life with more grounded-ness, love, compassion, flow and ease.
HOW TO SIT?
Hi there - Precious here…
Let me start by saying this - when I say “sit” what I really mean is engaging in practices that encourage stillness, spark inner contemplation, and provide space to “be”.
There are many ways to “sit” - prayer, meditation, journaling, spending time alone, deep-breathing, to name a few - but my favorite of these are prayer and mindfulness meditation.
A NOTE ON MINDFULNESS MEDITATION
The mindfulness meditation practice is powerful in that it allows you to lean into the present moment without judgement and with compassion. And it is through our continued practice of meditation that we develop such steadfastness with ourselves - being consistently present, aware and compassionate - that allows us to share that same energy with the outer world.
When we are “mindful”, our attention is not entangled in the past or future, and we are not judging or rejecting what is occurring at the moment. We are present. This kind of attention generates energy, clear-headedness and a sense of refuge.
WHEN TO SIT?
Whether you’re new to the sit life or you’ve been taking on “sit practices” for some time now - it doesn’t matter when you sit, what’s most important is that make sitting a part of your every day routine.
